I'm looking to buy a BJD but I don't know what size I should get?
So I've been researching some BJD's and found two that I like from AoD. There's the 58 cm SMG female version two which is the mold used for Qian. I originally had my heart set on her but there's another basic mini named Rao who's 44 cm tall. I've heard from first buyers that the SD sized dolls are big and I'm worried that for my first BJD purchase, it may be too large. What do other BJD owners recommend? If the 58 is easy to care for, I will most likely buy her.
Thanks in advance!
Get the doll you like the most.
Look, everyone likes different sizes in dolls. I have everything from 43cm to 70cm dolls, and I like them all. I find that the SD size dolls are easiest for me to find clothing and accessories in the proper scale that I also like, and they're very easy to sew for. I don't find them any harder to care for than the smaller dolls or easier to care for than my larger ones. That said, I'm not the kind of person who carries my doll around everywhere and I wouldn't like to carry any of the larger ones around. They're heavier and more awkward, and it's harder to just tuck them away in a bag somewhere (though it CAN be done).
In this hobby, there is no such thing as a "best" size of doll or a "best" doll for a beginner. It's all about what appeals to YOU. And if you don't know how big 58cm is, go get a ruler or tape measure with cm on it (or convert the size to inches) and measure it out.
