Should I return it if I didn't pay for it?

Last night I bought a shirt at Macy's and when I got home, I took it out of the shopping bag to try it on. But I noticed there was something else in the bag....a cropped lace tube worth $28. How did it get in there? I'm guessing the saleman accidently grabbed it together when it was on the counter and accidently stuff it in the bag. Should I return it or keep it. If I return it will the saleman get in trouble by any chance??

Return it, as that is the ethical thing to do - try to find the salesman and let him know of the mistake. If you know the salesman's name, call first and ask when he will be in the store; if not, visit the store without the lace tube and inquire. If he is working at that time, tell him of the mistake and get the tube from the car and return it (and have your receipt to show it was not included).

Since the cropped lace tube has left the store, they can no longer sell it as new, they can only sell it as used, per state law. But that's now their problem, not yours.
