How do I stabilize antique silk ?
The silk is just disintegrating around the embroidery that is historic and should be saved. It's too late for stabilizing with fabric, is there some kind of resin, or should I just cut the embroidered parts out and mount them on PH neutral media?
If you have a textiles museum near (or at least in your country) contact them for advice.
They will have the brand names for what is available in your country and the knowledge to tell you what to do, or can send you on to people who do. And they know which museums/restorers have experience in working with silk.
Do not cut until you are sure there are no other ways to save it, as you can never put it back together.
I have talked it over with a friend who does textile restorations, she mentions that the kind of glue used (if any,) will have a great impact.
She also mentioned that you have to have a textiles expert with a good reputation, that contacting a big, well known, museum with a textiles department is likely the best.
That the price will be high, she mentioned a starting rate of several hundreds of pounds plus a rate estimated by the amount of work involved, all at specialist rates.
There are websites and forums for people working (hobby and professional) with silks, those are better to ask than here where most people will have no knowledge and the few with any knowledge will most likely be no experts.
