How long do you play with your 12 week old baby and what games?
I have a baby girl who is 12 Weeks old. I just want to make sure I am spending time playing with her. I usually feed her than I play with her till she is tired and want to sleep.
Can you tell me more or less your routine for your 12 week baby and how long do you play with her and what type of games do you play and how ofter during the day?
We did eat-play-sleep cycles 2.5 - 3 hours long at that age, and they slept 8 hours at straight at night.
Their schedule did get a bit wonky during that 3rd month though, for awhile they were only taking 2 three hour naps instead of the usual 4!
I spent about 30 minutes breastfeeding each twin one at a time, and while I was feeding one, the other was on tummy time. During the 3rd month though they started to be able to use their activity mat, so spent a lot of time on their back also.
I know using their pack and play mattress to create a breeze would make them smile at that age. I would play music for them, shake a rattle and let their eyes follow it.
A typical 3 hour cycle would be breastfeed Vaughn while Monty was on tummy time / activity mat for 30m, switch them around. Then diaper changes and interactive play for 30m, then nap for 1-1.5 hours. Repeat. Nap would be in a swing or swaddled in their crib.
You want her to get a lot of tummy time, and start using the activity mat to.
At 3 months my guys made the switch to staying awake for longer periods, so had more playtime. Also they became more interactive, able to start swatting at toys, and they liked to spend time doing that.
Most of their play was tummy time and activity gym, but for 15m after diaper changes we did light rough housing and showing them books, rattles, dancing with them etc. until they were tired.
At first we did diaper changes then feeding, but they started to get more demanding to be fed right after waking, and not needing the diaper changes to be woken up, so that is when they got moved around. I changed them on the floor, so I was already down in a position to play with them.
She is moving from her main source of brain growth being skin to skin contact, to it being swatting at toys and using her eyes / ears. So her play style is going to change.
In another month she can use a bumbo, hold a rattle, and bounce in a doorway jumper.
